I bought this for my father in law as he wanted to get into digitial photography but didn't want anything large or complicated. I think Canon has some of the best lenses and imaging software so I I decided to give him this one. It didn't disappoint. A novice can take it out of the box and take a nice photo with it. the controls are laid out well and the photos are clear and noise free.

Do not buy it or any model like it. The lens design is bad and gets jammed easily and it is usually permanent. Canon should refund buyers for this model since it doesn't last much more than a year or two. It was a waste of my money and now I have to buy a new camera. My $400 got me 2 years out of mine and now they want to charge $100 to repair since it is past warranty. It is unacceptable for it to break so soon after buying it brand new. The lens always seemed a bit finicky so I should have know there would be problems. Unfortunately I loved it before it jammed and had no complaints. Then I found many others online with my same problem and was very disappointed in Canon for not recalling or refunding this model.Customer Review: Good camera but not sure about the build quality

The camera is beautiful, and very sturdy. Going on looks, you won't be disappointed. It also takes wonderful pictures, in perfect conditions. I finally gave up and sold this camera, to replace it with a 950is. I highly recommend opting for a camera with IS.Customer Review: Packed full of options

Compact, easy to read instruction manual, great pictures, and if you are shaking when taking a picture the camera will tell you, which is very helpfull.
