We just needed a basic scanner for documents and photos. I was worried about how compatible this would be with my G4 PowerBook running OSX, and it's fine. It's about the size of my 15" laptop but much lighter. Getting power from the computer through the USB port is a very nice feature. We both found it easy to set up and use. It does a nice job with photos, and the OCR software is reliable. I suppose it's slow, but it's so convenient that we're not finding the speed anything to worry about. As usual, Amazon's packing is terrible, and when I saw the state of the box (after the Post Office driver flung it on my porch, which was only the final insult), I was afraid the scanner would be damaged, but the manufacturer's packaging was very sturdy and saved the day.Customer Review: Excellent value for the $$$

This is one of the great buys around. When you think about it, it costs less than a tank of gas for your car. If you need a scanner that will perform basic scanning functions (photos, documents, etc.) for the home, you can't go wrong here. It's very easy to use and performs very well. Morover, it runs right off your computer, and when you aren't using it, you just unplug and store it (it's also very light in weight), thus saving desk space.
I read a review or two complaining about the software. I just popped the disc in, it loaded, and I was off and scanning. The software also includes a nice enhancement program that meets all of my needs.
Personally, I always have problems when I read reviews that measure a low priced item by Mercedes-Benz standards. Yeah, you don't get all the extras, the bells & whistles, and related amenities. But if you scanning requirements are as simple as mine, who needs the add ones. Why pay for features you really don't need?

A good little scanner. USB power supply is nice. Works perfectly fine on 64-BIT Windows Vista Business. The scanner has a COPY function, so if you have a printer you'll also have an adequate copy machine, too. Stop looking at other scanners. As a college student I don't have alot of scratch to spare but this thing gives me great resolution and is user friendly. It also works with 3rd party software, I can be working in Photoshop and just import directly into the program.
All in all a great product.

I was looking for a scanner to scan two huge boxes of old family
photos. cant beat the price. its small but great for scanning
prints. I like the no power-block to keep down on the clutter. and
I must rave about the auto-crop feature... its exactly what I needed.
if I scan, say, 4 old photos at once it detects the seperate images
and auto-crops them into their own files. a huge time saver so now
I dont have to do the cropping by hand in photoshop.
BUT I returned the lide25 for the lide90 cuz it just wasnt fast enuff.
its usb 1.1. a 600 dpi scan took 120 seconds which just isnt going to
work for a huge box of photos. a 300 dpi scan is 60 seconds but still
not faster enuff. I also couldnt find a way to select any dpi between
300 and 600 if I wanted to do auto-crop so 600 it is. I wish it would
allow me to pick 400 dpi.
great scanner if you dont care about the speed.
