I bought 3 binoculars as X'mas gifts this year. Each has almost the same price tags from Nikon, Olympus and Canon. I tried them on to compare before I gave them away. And without a doubt, these Canon came away a winnner from the other two. The sight is cleaner and brighter. Not taking away from the other two, they are also clear and bright. But when compared with Canon, these one blew them away. And to think this is the cheapest of the lot.

The 8x magnification is more than adequate for most circumstances--higher magnification levels are harder to compensate for, leading to a lot of shaking and twitching.
The 8x23A's rugged exterior helps protect from accidental bumps drops. Nitrogen-filled construction protects the optics from fogging or damage. The multicoated Canon optics include an aspheric element to help increase sharpness and contrast.
